Activity: Ask students to stand up and spread out so that they each have space to move safely. “We will now march by 1s and clap on 10s. Ready, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 (with a clap), 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20 (with a clap). “Next, we clap by 10s and jump on 100! Ready, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100(with a jump), 110, 120, 130, …” Continue to 200. “Now we will count by 100s and strike a pose on 1000! Are you ready to jump for each 100? How many jumps do we need to get to 1000? (Wait for response…) Yes, 10 jumps! Ready, 100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600, 700, 800, 900, 1000 (Strike a pose and freeze).” Fantastic!
Take a Mindful Minute: Students are asked to sit back in their seats for a “Mindful Minute”. “Feet are flat on the floor, backs are straight, hands are still in our laps. We will now take five nice slow breaths while watching the breathing ball. Inhale, exhale, inhale, exhale, inhale, exhale, inhale, exhale, inhale, exhale.”
